WordPress Helpdesk – beginners welcome

Just started with WordPress and still finding your way around? Confused by all the jargon? Could you do with some WordPress advice and guidance?

Community Workshop, April 2018
WordPress Glasgow Community Workshop, April 2018

Got a WordPress website that’s bugging you? Do you need some WordPress advice and guidance? Come and meet the WordPress professionals who may be able to help you or point you in the right direction.

Please let us know that you are coming via the Meetup page. That way we know how many sandwiches to order.

Professionals are welcome too!

If you are a WordPress professional and can spare a couple of hours every 3 months, please come along to give some guidance to people who are learning or are stuck and need advice. The WordPress Workshop & HelpDesk relies on people like you giving their time and knowledge. It’s also a great opportunity to increase your own WP skills.

Please note that the organising team expects all advice to be given for free and in good faith but, if something is too big to fix there and then the WordPress professional will have the right to say so.

WordPress Networking

A meeting point for WordPress developers and web designers looking for their next project or collaboration and for people who have a project and would like to meet a WordPress professional.

Belated apologies for not having this meeting back in July. The planning gods were against us and it was never going to work out. Many thanks for your patience.

The WordPress Workshop & Helpdesk Glasgow is a regular Meetup organised by volunteers and supported by WordPress and other sponsors.

We look forward to seeing you there.

So far, Page Builders have stayed ahead of the game in responding to the changes that WordPress has made to its main editing tool. The introduction of Gutenberg has moved WordPress in the right direction but the jury is still out in deciding whether the Page Builders will need to treat the Block Editor (Gutenberg) as direct competition.

Any software that generates its own code risks being ‘top heavy’ which might have an impact on your SEO but that may be outweighed by the simple convenience of being able to tailor your own Page and Post layouts. In the end that is a comparison only you can make for your particular circumstances. At some point you have to make your own decisions… advice like this can only help you so much and then it is down to you, your research and your decision-making. Good luck!

Website Security

1st August 2019 by Glasgowapuu

Are you confident that your website security is up to the job? Would you like some tips to help you improve your site’s security and plug some of those gaps you have been meaning to fill?

We are pleased to announce our
August Glasgow WordPress Meetup which is on

Tuesday 27 August

So How Secure Is Your Site Really?

Doors open at 6pm for a 6:30pm start
Venue: Scottish Youth Theatre ‘Silver Room’
105 Brunswick Street
Glasgow

Tim Nash, from one of our main sponsors 34SP, will be visiting Glasgow to provide some guidance on some of the things you could — and should — be doing to improve your website security.

He will also advise on penetration testing (‘pentesting’) which is a means of using the tactics used by hackers in order to test how secure (or not!) your site actually is.
